Sensible - SDU Robotics

SENSIBLE aims to revolutionize wind turbine maintenance with teleoperated robots, allowing technicians to perform service tasks remotely.

The Challenge

In order to face the green transition we need to invest in renewable energy – and in long-term, sustainable maintenance of windmills, for example.
The challenge, then, is to create a teleoperated robot system capable of performing complex maintenance tasks on wind turbines.
Most importantly, maintenance needs to happen without requiring technicians to physically climb up and rappel down the turbines, ultimately saving time, resources and ensuring safety.

Harnessing XR to revolutionize wind turbine maintenance

Project
responsibilities

As partners in this project, we are focused on developing an extended reality (XR) system to enhance the teleoperation and particularly training experiences.
We began by defining the criteria and objectives for the XR system together, our team then started to collaborate closely with project partners to develop a VR scene for the physical emulator and integrated the XR system for both teleoperation and training purposes.

Project goal

The project’s run is 2023-2027 so there is not yet an ending to our part in the SENSIBLE story.
We do, however, already firmly believe that our collaboration in this project will result in an innovative XR system that significantly enhances the possibilities for remote maintenance, thereby ensuring the safety of technicians.
Long term we believe that the success of this project and projects like it underscores the importance of integrating cutting-edge XR technology in industrial applications for safety, efficiency and for a greener practice overall.

We’re proud to be a part of the SENSIBLE ecosystem and can’t wait to see where this takes us.
